c. Making Enemies (Part III)

the trees became enemies today
the actor needed the silt
the batterment, the unease
the childhood tortures, the fright

at dawn the evil drawn came
kindly, smoothly, gradual
the actor cooked
the character boiling

then trees played with midday sun
as the always do, have done, will do
they say hello in an ancient timbre
and froze the boil to tepid

the actor’s internal editor chimes in
and adds ice cubes to the mix
just by thinking of the thought
of losing his place, his mood.

hoping he can cook again
right before, “Action!”
the actor retreats to his trailer
and away from “natural” delights
