At Sunset
At Sunset
Seeking solace
On a heat soaked afternoon
the only vacancy,
a dilapidated and withered bench,
summons me
It sags precariously
under a parched willow tree
Like me,
A victim of the elements
Its outer shell
Cracked and crumbling
Reeking of decay
Succumbing to time
Basking in a momentary oasis
Each comforting the other
One offers a temporary respite
The other accepts an offering
Both cognizant,
the road ends here
As the sun leisurely descends,
two companions gently dissipate
into a vanishing horizon
